Sample Response

It often takes hard work and talent to get the public's attention, and once that is achieved, many famous people constantly try to avoid the attention. Being a celebrity is certainly not easy but comes with big benefits like fame, power and money. It is a debatable topic whether being a famous personality is a blessing or a curse, and this essay will shed some light on that. Personally, I believe that it brings more significant benefits.

Let us first look at the negative sides of being a celebrity. Some fans are crazy about the celebrities they adore. They are so fanatic that they often stalk them, send them letters and constantly try to contact them in one way or another. Newspapers and paparazzi are always on their tails, and their privacy is violated. Constant followers, annoying calls or being stalked by strangers become a part of their lives. All these scary things come with the tag of being a celebrity. Moreover, they often have to fulfil a demanding expectation in their career. Otherwise, they will be subject to criticism or even termination. For example, a couple of flop films by a lead actor, or poor scores by a sportsman may end their career overnight.

Among the benefits, celebrities enjoy fame, influence and money. They are famous and well-respected. This fame helps them further influence people and close more deals with advertisers. They also have the power to make bold statements about any issue and are often taken seriously. Moreover, they make a huge sum of money which guarantees their financial well-being and glamorous lifestyle for the rest of their life. For instance, a famous Hollywood actress earns more money from a single movie than a high school teacher earns from her entire life's salary. Thus a celebrity is famous, rich and powerful.

In conclusion, being a celebrity brings both disadvantages and benefits. However, careful analysis reveals that the advantages are far more significant, and perhaps that is why being a celebrity is so desirable to most people.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.0

The essay is easy to follow, maintains a clear view, and develops both the difficulties and advantages of celebrity with relevant examples. Its main limitation is that the conclusion that benefits are greater is asserted more strongly than it is comparatively demonstrated, while a few word choices are imprecise. The highest priority is to weigh the two sides directly and explain why the identified benefits outweigh the substantial costs.
