Why this response received Band 5.5

Prioritizing correct verb tenses, passive forms, and basic spelling will yield the highest immediate improvements in overall readability.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Detailed feedback by IELTS writing criterion after the annotated essay.
Task Achievement
The main changes between the two plans are identified, and a general overview of the redesign is provided.
Ensure spatial descriptions are accurate by double-checking locations against the map layout (e.g., toilets are in the bottom right corner, not bottom left).
Coherence and Cohesion
The essay follows a logical progression from the overview to descriptions of the past and present layouts.
Use more varied transition words instead of simple formulaic stage markers like 'First picture shows' and 'Second image presents'.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is sufficient to convey the visual information, but frequent spelling mistakes and limited word choices are present.
Carefully review basic vocabulary spelling (e.g., 'pictures', 'significantly', 'small', 'coffee') before finishing the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Multiple grammatical errors occur in sentence structure, verb agreement, and passive voice formations.
Practice forming complete passive sentences (e.g., 'a new section was added') and ensuring subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'toilets were not changed').
