Why this response received Band 7.5
The response accurately identifies the crossover, contrasting long-term directions, and principal population figures in a clear, economical structure. The main limitation is that some language is slightly imprecise or unsupported, particularly the reference to experts, while the treatment of intermediate years is selective. Use strictly graph-based wording and include one more interim comparison to strengthen precision and coverage.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Achievement
The main trends, crossover point, starting figures, and final projections are accurately selected and clearly described.
Remove the unsupported reference to experts and add one intermediate comparison from the graph to broaden the account.
Coherence and Cohesion
The response is logically sequenced, with focused paragraphs and cohesive contrasts that are easy to follow.
Place the overview immediately after the introduction so the key trends frame the detailed figures from the outset.
Lexical Resource
The vocabulary is appropriate and sufficiently varied for describing population growth, decline, and comparison.
Use more precise graph-reporting phrases and avoid less natural expressions such as the number of Chinese or experts say.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Complex and simple structures are combined effectively, with only minor tense and phrasing lapses.
Use the past simple consistently for completed periods such as 2000 to 2010, reserving future forms for projections.
