Over this 4-year period, Spider-Man was constantly the best-selling character, which was followed by X-Men Avengers exceeded Iron Man in 2017 to take the third place Fantastic Four fell out of the top five, and its place was taken by Captain American.
Ever since Marvel studio’s efforts in getting back the rights of its characters that were sold to different movie companies in the 1990s, a large number of superheroes had been taken back by 2014. However, the most-profitable character, Spider-Man, was still solely owned by Sony Pictures along with its main foe, Venom Likewise, the ownership of the other two top-five franchises, namely X-men and Fantastic Four, has not been bought back from 20th Century Fox, which possessed the second most characters in 2014. It shared Quicksilver and Red Scarlet with Marvel, though. Namor was another co-owned character between Marvel and Universal Pictures, while Lionsgate Entertainment had the full right of Man-thing.

Why this response received Band 6.5
The response is ambitious and generally well organised, comparing ownership in 2014 and 2017 with a useful account of the leading franchises. Its main weakness is that franchise performance receives little numerical support and a few causal or ownership claims are broader than the visuals establish. The priority is to ground the overview and comparisons in precise chart evidence while correcting the run-on sentences that interrupt readability.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Achievement
The response identifies the principal changes in movie rights and the broad franchise ranking, but it underuses the gross figures and includes some unsupported causal framing.
Support the franchise comparison with selected values from both charts and omit claims about Stan Lee's role that the visuals do not demonstrate.
Coherence and Cohesion
The paragraph sequence from overview to 2014 and 2017 creates clear progression, though several missing sentence boundaries disrupt the flow.
Divide the compressed overview statements into complete sentences and keep each comparison explicitly tied to one year or chart.
Lexical Resource
There is a good range of ownership and ranking vocabulary, but errors such as 'much more main characters', 'Captain American', and 'got bath' reduce precision.
Proofread names and use accurate countable forms and collocations, such as 'many more major characters' and 'regained the rights'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
The response uses varied complex structures with generally clear meaning, but run-on sentences, tense shifts, and omitted punctuation recur noticeably.
Prioritise complete sentence boundaries, especially before 'Avengers', 'Likewise', and 'Even so', then check tense consistency across the two years.
