Sample Response
Dear Sir or Madam, I have been working in your company as a software engineer since 2020 and it is an absolute honour to have been a part of this great company. I am writing to inform you that I have decided to discontinue my service effective from September 01, 2025. As per my employment agreement, I am giving one month's notice prior to leaving, dated from today. It was a tough decision for me because of the opportunity and recognition I have received so far. It was a perfect and conducive working environment that has an undeniable impression on me. However, I have recently accepted a job in Australia and need to move there in three months. My family lives there and I had been planning to be with them for a long. I will settle in Australi and work as a software engineer there. This would help me stay close to my family and further enhance my career. I would like to show my gratitude to all who have helped me in my journey. Yours faithfully, Fahad Sultan

IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Detailed feedback by IELTS writing criterion after the annotated essay.
Task Achievement
The resignation letter clearly states the purpose, gives notice, explains the move to Australia, and says what the writer will do next. The formal tone is suitable for an employer.
Add one sentence offering to support the handover during the notice period.
Coherence and Cohesion
The response has a logical order from employment background to resignation, reason, future plan, and thanks. It is one paragraph, and some referents such as “this” could be clearer.
Use formal paragraphs for resignation details, reason for leaving, future plans, and appreciation.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is appropriate for employment and resignation, with phrases such as “employment agreement” and “one month’s notice”. A few choices are unnatural, including “discontinue my service” and “for a long”.
Use standard resignation wording such as “resign from my position” and “for a long time”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Meaning is mostly clear, but tense control and word choice errors reduce accuracy. There are also spelling, article, and preposition issues.
Check present perfect and past perfect forms, and proofread proper nouns such as “Australia”.
