Why this response received Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the task and offers relevant measures involving government, celebrities, and consumers. Its main weakness is that ideas are only briefly explained and are expressed through pervasive grammatical and collocational errors, while the slight shortfall in length further limits development; the priority is to build each main point with a clear explanation or example and then proofread sentence structures carefully.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
Both questions are addressed, but the extent of influence is asserted rather than clearly evaluated and the proposed measures remain thinly developed.
Explain how advertising changes consumer decisions and support each protective measure with a specific mechanism or example.
Coherence and Cohesion
The response follows a generally understandable path from influence to solutions, although paragraphing is absent and linking is often mechanical or imprecise.
Organise the response into distinct paragraphs and use clearer logical links within each developed idea.
Lexical Resource
There is some topic-specific range, but frequent inaccurate word choice, word formation, and collocation reduce precision and naturalness.
Prioritise accurate common collocations such as consumers are influenced and enforce laws before attempting less familiar vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Meaning can usually be recovered, but frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction affect most sentences.
Build and check simpler complete sentences first, with particular attention to subject-verb agreement and passive verb forms.
