Why this response received Band 5.5
The response's strongest feature is its clear position that celebrity creates more problems, and it considers both disadvantages and benefits with generally relevant supporting points. The main limitation is weak control of sentence boundaries, paragraphing, spelling, and collocation, which makes several ideas feel rushed or awkward. The highest-priority improvement is to organise the argument into distinct paragraphs and revise each sentence for complete structure and accurate wording.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The essay answers the comparison question with a clear position and relevant discussion of privacy, influence, recognition, and money, although development is uneven.
Explain more explicitly why the disadvantages outweigh the benefits and support each main point with a more focused illustration.
Coherence and Cohesion
The argument follows a recognisable sequence, but the single-block presentation, run-on sentences, and mechanical transitions weaken progression.
Use separate introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs, with one clearly controlled main idea in each body paragraph.
Lexical Resource
The response uses enough topic vocabulary to discuss celebrity life, but frequent spelling and collocation problems reduce precision.
Prioritise accurate forms and natural combinations such as paparazzi, held in high regard, and influence young people.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Some longer structures are attempted, but frequent sentence-boundary, agreement, article, and capitalization errors show limited control.
Write complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then proofread punctuation, agreement, and capitalization systematically.
