Sample Response
Homework helps students better understand their study materials and class lessons and regular homework attach students to their academic lessons more deeply. However, some people believe that homework does not bring any benefits. Personally, I think that this issue has some advantages and disadvantages. In this essay first I will focus on the reasons I support this idea about daily homework and then I will move on to analysing its disadvantages. However, my personal opinion would be in favour of homework as I believe this is mostly helpful.
From the one side, daily homework brings many benefits. As I already mentioned, it helps students understand subjects more deeply. Also, young people learn how to arrange their time to have all things done on time. In addition to those practical benefits daily homework teaches students how to make their own research if something is not clear. Curiosity is one of the main reasons that leads a person to a success. Students learn to make their research, work with different kinds of informational resources such as Internet, books, magazines, journals and newspapers. I think it is a great experience and it is very good for a long run.
From the other side, daily homework can bring many disadvantages. For instance, if a person has no interest in biology, but has a huge interest in music he has to spend his precious time doing his homework and reading uninteresting books instead of spending the time practising new melodies. Another important aspect of this that a student can have no time for his physical activities. So, basically, doing daily homework will not keep him in a good shape.
To sum up, I think that an intermediate position can be taken. For example, a student will have to do his daily homework if he is going to specialise in this field in the future.

Why this response received Band 6.0
The response is clearly organised and offers relevant benefits and drawbacks of daily homework, with generally understandable support. Its main limitation is that the position shifts from being in favour to an intermediate, conditional conclusion, so the answer to whether homework is necessary is not fully consistent. The highest-priority improvement is to state one precise position and make every paragraph, especially the conclusion, reinforce it with more fully developed reasons.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Detailed feedback by IELTS writing criterion after the annotated essay.
Task Response
The task is addressed with relevant advantages and disadvantages, but the stated position becomes inconsistent in the conclusion and some ideas are only moderately developed.
Choose one clear answer to whether daily homework is necessary and support that position consistently with fuller explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion
The essay follows a clear paragraph structure and overall progression, although transitions are formulaic and some sentences connect ideas mechanically.
Use more natural logical links within paragraphs and ensure the conclusion follows directly from the argument developed earlier.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is adequate for the topic and meaning remains clear, but several collocations are unnatural, such as references to making research and attaching students to lessons.
Replace awkward word combinations with precise academic collocations and avoid vague phrases such as good for a long run.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A mix of simple and complex structures is used, but recurring article, preposition, and sentence-construction errors reduce accuracy without seriously impeding meaning.
Proofread complex sentences for articles, prepositions, and complete clause structures, particularly around examples and comparisons.
