Education is the single most important factor in the development of a country. Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Response

The idea that education is of less importance in the development of a country is not correct. Some people believe that education is a subsidiary factor in the development of a country while others presume that education is the top most important factor in the development of a country. However, I strongly agree that education is the most important factor in the development of a country.

The first reason why education is essential for a country is that it dramatically changes people’s way of thinking. Such people will begin to think in a modern way which will improve both themselves and their society. For example, when children or adults receive a good education, they are expected to discover or invent new things which will tremendously contribute to the growth and development of their country. Consequently, it can be admitted that such education enormously influenced people’s way of thinking in a positive way.

The second reason why education is of a great importance is that it eases and facilitates the communication among countries. In other words, education greatly enables a country to easily and smoothly deal or contact with another country. For example, when people tend to learn a unified language to be the lingua franca among them, they will not face or encounter any communication difficulty. Hence, we can infer that education has its effective role in building a strong relationship within countries.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that education has its vital role in developing the mentality of people and the means of communication among them. If people pay much care to education, they are, without any doubt, heading towards a development and prosperity of their countries.

IELTS Writing Correction

  • 1. Remove double superlative Original: top most important Suggested revision: most important Why it matters: Most already forms the superlative, so top is redundant and ungrammatical here.
  • 2. Use suitable modality Original: they are expected to discover or invent Suggested revision: they may discover or invent Why it matters: May expresses a possible outcome of education without implying that every educated person is expected to invent something.
  • 3. Improve adverb placement Original: will tremendously contribute Suggested revision: can contribute greatly Why it matters: Contribute greatly is the more natural collocation and can appropriately presents the outcome as possible.
  • 4. Use logical reporting verb Original: admitted Suggested revision: concluded Why it matters: Concluded is the appropriate verb for drawing an inference from the preceding example.
  • 5. Use consistent tense Original: enormously influenced Suggested revision: greatly influences Why it matters: The paragraph states a general present claim, so the past tense influenced is inconsistent.
  • 6. Remove incorrect article Original: of a great importance Suggested revision: of great importance Why it matters: Importance is uncountable in this expression and does not take the article a.
  • 7. Remove redundant verbs Original: eases and facilitates Suggested revision: facilitates Why it matters: Ease and facilitate express the same idea here, so one precise verb is sufficient.
  • 8. Correct article and preposition Original: the communication among countries Suggested revision: communication between countries Why it matters: Communication is used generally without the article, and between fits relationships involving distinct countries.
  • 9. Use direct verb form Original: when people tend to learn Suggested revision: when people learn Why it matters: Tend to suggests a recurring inclination and is unnecessary for the stated hypothetical condition.
  • 10. Use concise terminology Original: a unified language to be the lingua franca among them Suggested revision: a common lingua franca Why it matters: A lingua franca is already a shared language, so the longer phrase is redundant and awkward.
  • 11. Remove synonym repetition Original: face or encounter Suggested revision: face Why it matters: Face and encounter have the same function here, so using both is redundant.
  • 12. Use natural plural Original: any communication difficulty Suggested revision: communication difficulties Why it matters: The plural form naturally refers to communication problems in general.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 6.5

The response presents a consistent position and a clear two-reason structure, with the first point linking education to innovation and national progress effectively. Its main limitation is that the second reason about international communication is asserted more than demonstrated and the discussion relies on repetition; the highest-priority improvement is to develop each reason through a precise causal chain and a concrete national-development example.
