Why this response received Band 5.5
The response’s clearest strength is its consistent agreement with the proposition and its recognizable organization into benefits, a drawback, and a conclusion. However, several ideas rely on unsupported or inaccurate generalizations, and frequent grammatical and collocational errors weaken precision. The highest-priority improvement is to develop two convincing advantages with specific evidence while revising sentences for agreement, articles, capitalization, and natural word combinations.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
A clear position is maintained and relevant advantages and a disadvantage are presented, but development is uneven and some claims are insufficiently supported.
Select two persuasive advantages and explain each through a clear causal chain and a realistic example rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion
The essay has a recognizable progression and paragraph structure, though linking is mechanical and some sentences connect ideas imprecisely.
Organize each body paragraph around one controlling idea and use reference and linking expressions only where the logical relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource
The vocabulary is adequate for the topic and includes some less common items, but frequent word-choice and collocation problems reduce accuracy.
Prioritize accurate combinations such as barriers to communication, conduct business, and knowledge of English instead of forcing formal vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A mix of sentence forms is attempted, but frequent errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and capitalization reduce control.
Edit every sentence for a complete clause, correct subject-verb agreement, necessary articles, and capitalization of English and sentence openings.
