Some people believe that latest computers and technologies are more convenient that previous ones while others oppose this idea.

Sample Response

With the increasing demand on making computers to be more convenient, engineers continuously innovate to create better ones. Despite this, some people find the latest computers harder to use compared with previous ones. Nevertheless, most people find the newest IT products are more convenient though. Some people are not used to the new products offered by IT companies. People who work with Windows XP for years will find Windows 8 uncanny with its new Apps System and the way on how a program is installed. On the other hand, most people, especially young people, quickly adapt to the change of the features. We can see when Mac Book was introduced, most of the young customers did not find it difficult to use, although they used Windows for years. In addition, most of the people understand that new features are meant to make information processing easier. When Skype was released, people rushed to download and learn how to use it; it is the best feature to do cam chats. Unfortunately, the others fail to understand the need of learning features which obviously leads to easier usage. It is because of their lack of curiosity of those, hence, they feel unable to understand the way those are used. Are recent computers harder or easier to use? In conclusion, it depends on each person's ability and interest to learn new features offered by IT companies. However, judging on the large proportion of those who find it easy to use recent computers, those who find it difficult to use can use the computers easily if they have great interest to learn.

IELTS Writing Correction

  • 1. Remove redundant linker Original: Nevertheless, Suggested revision: Delete Why it matters: The preceding sentence already establishes the contrast, so this linker is repetitive.
  • 2. Correct object complement Original: find the newest IT products are more convenient Suggested revision: find the newest IT products more convenient Why it matters: The verb 'find' takes an object followed directly by its complement in this structure.
  • 3. Use precise wording Original: are not used to the new products Suggested revision: are unfamiliar with the new products Why it matters: This wording more directly expresses a lack of familiarity with the products.
  • 4. Use present perfect Original: work with Windows XP for years Suggested revision: have worked with Windows XP for years Why it matters: The present perfect is needed for an experience continuing over a period up to the present.
  • 5. Choose accurate adjective Original: uncanny Suggested revision: unfamiliar Why it matters: 'Uncanny' means strangely unsettling, whereas the intended meaning is that the system is unfamiliar.
  • 6. Use standard term Original: Apps System Suggested revision: app system Why it matters: The generic term does not require capitalization or a plural modifier.
  • 7. Remove faulty construction Original: the way on how Suggested revision: how Why it matters: Use either 'the way' or 'how', rather than combining both forms with 'on'.
  • 8. Improve collocation Original: adapt to the change of the features Suggested revision: adapt to changes in the features Why it matters: 'Changes in the features' is the natural collocation for modifications to product features.
  • 9. Fix clause structure Original: We can see when Mac Book was introduced Suggested revision: When the MacBook was introduced Why it matters: Removing the unnecessary reporting clause creates a correctly structured time clause.
  • 10. Remove unnecessary article Original: most of the young customers Suggested revision: most young customers Why it matters: Use 'most' directly before a general plural noun when no defined group has been established.
  • 11. Show earlier experience Original: although they used Windows for years Suggested revision: although they had used Windows for years Why it matters: The past perfect clearly places their Windows experience before the MacBook was introduced.
  • 12. Use general plural Original: most of the people understand Suggested revision: most people understand Why it matters: The article is unnecessary because the sentence refers to people generally.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 5.5

The response maintains a clear view that newer technology is generally more convenient and uses relevant examples to contrast different users' experiences. Its main limitations are the single-block organisation, uneven development, and recurrent awkward wording and grammar that weaken precision. The highest priority is to separate the argument into purposeful paragraphs and develop each viewpoint through a clearly explained reason and result.

Task Response

6.0
Scoring rule

The response addresses both perspectives and presents a consistent position, but several supporting points remain general or only partly explained.

Next step

Develop each viewpoint with a distinct reason, a specific example, and an explicit explanation of how that example supports the position.

CC

Coherence and Cohesion

5.5

The argument has a broadly understandable sequence, but presenting the entire response as one paragraph obscures the progression of its main ideas.

Next step

Use separate introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs, with each body paragraph organised around one controlling idea.

The vocabulary is adequate for the topic and shows some range, although frequent awkward collocations reduce naturalness and precision.

Next step

Replace imprecise phrases with natural combinations such as adapt to new features, learn to use them, and make video calls.

GRA
