Why this response received Band 5.5
The response maintains a clear agreement with school-based parenting education and gives relevant examples of childcare skills, with an overall structure that is easy to follow. Its main limitation is that development becomes narrow and sometimes unclear, especially in the discussion of bruises, breastfeeding, and supplementation, while frequent grammatical and word-choice errors strain meaning. Prioritise explaining two or three broader parenting skills in precise language, then proofread sentence structure, agreement, articles, and noun forms.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The response answers both commands and gives a clear opinion, but the discussion of good-parent skills is narrow, unevenly developed, and partly unclear.
Explain a broader set of parenting skills, such as patience, communication, safety, and emotional support, with one clear reason or example for each.
Coherence and Cohesion
The essay follows a recognisable introduction-body-conclusion sequence, but progression within the body paragraphs is weakened by crowded sentences, unclear references, and repetitive linking.
Give each body paragraph one controlling idea and connect each supporting sentence explicitly to that idea.
Lexical Resource
The response attempts some less common vocabulary, but frequent inaccurate choices and combinations, including 'rudimentary need,' 'supplied abundant skills,' and 'menaces,' sometimes make the message difficult to follow.
Use familiar, precise parenting vocabulary and learn common verb-noun combinations before adding more ambitious terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Some complex structures are attempted, but frequent errors in articles, agreement, plurals, verb patterns, sentence boundaries, and capitalization reduce clarity.
Build shorter complete sentences first, then proofread every subject-verb pairing, article, plural noun, and verb complement.
