Sample Response

The given data compares the movie audiences from four different genres across four different countries. In general, action movies were the most popular among the audiences while Indian cinema goers were the highest in number. According to the table data, approximately 25 million audiences in India watched movies which represented the highest number of movie audiences while with slightly more than 23 million viewers, Ireland proclaims the second position. New Zealand has got about 20 million movie goers while it was the least (about 18 million) in Japan. Indian audiences preferred action, romance and comedy movies while they ignored the horror movies. Action movies got the highest number of audiences in these countries with about 30 million total audiences. Romance movies were enjoyed by just over 20 million people and it was the least preferred movie category in Ireland. Comedy stands at the third position in terms of its total audience and was least popular in New Zealand. Horror movies attracted the least number of movie lowers but were most popular in Ireland. More than 6 million Irish watched horror movies and that was higher than the audiences of romantic and comedy movies.

IELTS Writing Correction

  • 1. Clarify the categories Original: movie audiences from four different genres Suggested revision: audiences for four film genres Why it matters: Audiences are associated with films in genres rather than originating from genres.
  • 2. Use concise scope Original: across four different countries Suggested revision: in four countries Why it matters: This is a more direct description of the table's geographical categories.
  • 3. Avoid awkward noun Original: among the audiences Suggested revision: among viewers Why it matters: Viewers is the natural countable noun for people attending films.
  • 4. Fix comparison structure Original: Indian cinema goers were the highest in number Suggested revision: India had the largest total audience Why it matters: The original incorrectly describes people themselves as being highest in number.
  • 5. Use accurate figure Original: approximately 25 million audiences Suggested revision: 24.5 million viewers Why it matters: The table gives India's total as 24.5 million.
  • 6. Fix clause connection Original: watched movies which represented Suggested revision: watched films, representing Why it matters: A participial clause clearly links the figure to its ranking.
  • 7. Use past reporting Original: proclaims Suggested revision: had Why it matters: A country does not proclaim a ranking, and the description should use past tense consistently.
  • 8. Keep tense consistent Original: has got Suggested revision: had Why it matters: Past tense matches the rest of this table description.
  • 9. Name the lowest total Original: it was the least (about 18 million) in Japan Suggested revision: Japan had the lowest total, at 17.8 million Why it matters: This removes the unclear pronoun and reports the table's exact figure.
  • 10. Avoid false claim Original: ignored the horror movies Suggested revision: watched fewer horror films Why it matters: Indian viewers watched 2.5 million horror films, so they did not ignore the genre.
  • 11. Use natural collocation Original: got the highest number of audiences Suggested revision: attracted the largest total audience Why it matters: Films attract an audience rather than get a number of audiences.
  • 12. Report exact total Original: about 30 million total audiences Suggested revision: a total audience of 29.9 million Why it matters: The action-film total shown in the table is 29.9 million.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 6.5

The response identifies the two clearest overall patterns and supports them with mostly accurate country totals and genre comparisons. The strongest feature is its purposeful selection of India, action films and Ireland's unusual horror preference, while the main limitation is occasional overstatement and imprecise language; the priority is to replace claims such as Indians ignoring horror with measured numerical comparisons and polish audience-related collocations.

TA

Task Achievement

7.0
Scoring rule

The response gives a clear overview and accurately selects most major totals and contrasts, with only minor overstatement about Indian horror viewing.

Next step

Support the overview with exact comparisons and describe India's 2.5 million horror viewers as its smallest genre figure rather than saying the genre was ignored.

CC

Coherence and Cohesion

6.5
Scoring rule

Ideas progress logically from national totals to genre totals and notable country preferences, but the absence of paragraph breaks weakens the visual organisation.

Next step

Separate the national comparison from the genre comparison so each detail paragraph develops one clear analytical grouping.

LR

Lexical Resource

6.5
Scoring rule

There is a useful range of language for popularity and ranking, although awkward choices such as million audiences, proclaims the second position, and movie lowers reduce precision.

Next step

Use natural forms such as million viewers, ranked second, cinema-goers, and attracted the smallest audience.

GRA

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

6.0
Scoring rule

Most sentences communicate comparisons clearly, but tense shifts, article use, agreement, and some overloaded clauses create recurring inaccuracies.

Next step

Maintain past tense throughout and divide long comparative sentences so every country or genre has a clear grammatical subject.
