The chartdiagram depicts levels of immigration, emigration and net migration in the UK over the decade between 1999 and 2008. Overall, immigration figures significantly exceeded emigration figuresthe number of immigrants outnumbered emigration figures significantly, with both showingboth witnessing an upward trend over the given period. In addition, net migration remained relatively stable and increased slightly, peaking in 2004 and 2007 before dropping back to around 160,000 in 2008peaking in 2004 and 2007 before falling to its original level.

Regarding the number of immigrants, it rose from 450,000 to 510,000 by 2003, before reaching almost 600,000 in 2004 and remaining close to that level thereaftersurging to nearly 600,000 and experiencing moderate fluctuations. Emigration increased by 100,000 from 300,000 by 2006, followed by a drop to around 340,000 in 2007, before rebounding to roughly 420410,000. When it comes to net migration, it fluctuated narrowly between 150,000 and 170,000 from 1999 to 2003levelled out at 150,000 between 1999 and 2003, after which it peaked at nearly 250,000 in 2004 and reached a secondary peak of around 240,000 in 2007.
