Public transports in many countries have improved. People should use public transport to support pollution control initiatives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this viewpoint?
Sample Response
The evolution of infrastructure and technology has revolutionised human living, and public transport is no exception. I believe that people should not drive their own automobiles because there are excellent transport systems all throughout the world, and the reasons I’ve mentioned below back up this belief.
First, as a result of global warming warnings, a number of countries have created a strong transport infrastructure to lower the number of private cars on the road and, in turn, lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Indian report from the environmental department attests to that. According to the report’s statistics, in metropolitan areas, pollution would drop to 40% if people only used 60% of public transit. Therefore, citizens must use public transit to support these programmes.
Additionally, public transportation is generally more energy-efficient than private vehicles. Trains, for example, are known for their high energy efficiency. The energy required to move a single person by train is significantly lower than that needed for a personal car. Moreover, general dustbins are provided by public transportation to support trash throughout travel, something that may not be achievable in private vehicles. For instance, if individuals commute in their own cars, they frequently discard trash outdoors on the road, contributing to pollution and occasionally even clogging the city’s sewage system.
In summary, people must use public transport to reduce their carbon footprint and improve the quality of life by reducing the amount of wastage on the roads and contributing to global warming.
IELTS Writing Correction
- 1. Use natural phrasing Original: human living Suggested revision: the way people live Why it matters: This phrase is more natural and precise in this context.
- 2. Remove redundancy Original: all throughout the world Suggested revision: throughout the world Why it matters: Throughout already expresses the idea of all locations.
- 3. Clarify the cause Original: as a result of global warming warnings Suggested revision: in response to warnings about global warming Why it matters: The original noun combination is unnatural and obscures the causal relationship.
- 4. Improve collocation Original: created a strong transport infrastructure Suggested revision: developed robust transport infrastructure Why it matters: Developed infrastructure is the more natural collocation.
- 5. Use precise verb Original: lower Suggested revision: reduce Why it matters: Reduce is the standard verb for describing a decrease in quantity.
- 6. Clarify the source Original: The Indian report from the environmental department Suggested revision: A report by India's environmental department Why it matters: This wording gives the report a clear and natural source relationship.
- 7. Clarify the statistic Original: pollution would drop to 40% Suggested revision: pollution levels would fall to 40% of their current level Why it matters: The original wording does not state what the percentage is measured against.
- 8. Fix percentage structure Original: used 60% of public transit Suggested revision: used public transport for 60% of their journeys Why it matters: People use a transport mode for journeys rather than use a percentage of the mode itself.
- 9. Use accurate term Original: general dustbins Suggested revision: public waste bins Why it matters: General dustbins is not a natural term for bins available to passengers.
- 10. Fix unclear wording Original: to support trash throughout travel Suggested revision: for disposing of waste during journeys Why it matters: The original phrase uses support incorrectly and does not clearly express disposal.
- 11. Use natural phrasing Original: discard trash outdoors on the road Suggested revision: throw rubbish onto the road Why it matters: This wording expresses the action more directly and naturally.
- 12. Use precise description Original: excellent transport systems Suggested revision: well-developed public transport systems Why it matters: The replacement identifies the type of transport and describes its quality more precisely.

Why this response received Band 7.0
The response presents a clear position and maintains a logical line of argument, with the comparison of public and private transport providing its strongest support. Its main limitation is that some evidence is implausible or only loosely relevant, especially the discussion of litter, while the final sentence accidentally reverses the intended environmental claim. Prioritise precise, credible development of each reason and proofread the conclusion for consistency.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The position is clear and relevant reasons are developed, although the litter argument and unsupported statistics weaken the persuasiveness of the response.
Develop two directly relevant environmental benefits with credible explanations and ensure the conclusion accurately restates the position.
Coherence and Cohesion
Ideas progress clearly through a conventional structure, and cohesive devices generally connect the argument effectively.
Strengthen the logical link between the second paragraph's energy-efficiency point and its less relevant discussion of roadside litter.
Lexical Resource
The response uses a sufficient range of topic vocabulary, but several awkward collocations reduce precision.
Replace expressions such as "support trash throughout travel" and "global warming warnings" with natural, exact environmental language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A variety of complex sentences is used with generally good control, and errors rarely impede meaning.
Proofread plural forms, articles, and clause logic, especially the contradictory wording about reducing waste while "contributing to global warming."
