Overall, plastic bottle recycling consists of nine consecutive steps 3starting when consumers depositcommencing with consumers depositing empty plastic bottles in recycling bins and culminating in the manufacture of new consumer goods. The entire cycle can be grouped into three major phases, 4includingnamely waste collection and sorting, physical processing of plastic waste, and the creation of raw materials followed by finished products. Notably, some finished items include new plastic bottles, 5thereby completing a continuous recycling cycleclosing this circular recycling loop.

Initially, 6used plastic bottles are discarded into designated recycling binsempty plastic bottles are deposited into recycling containers by the public, before being gathered by a 7collection vehiclewaste truck and transported to a recycling centre. Upon arrival at this facility, staff sort incoming plastic waste, manually separating and discarding 8non-recyclablenon‑recyclable items. Following this sorting stage, selected bottles are compacted into dense blocks, which are subsequently crushed into fragments and thoroughly washed to eliminate surface impurities.

Once washed, these plastic fragments are 9poured into an extrusion machinefed into machinery to produce plastic pellets.
