Nowadays, economic growthdevelopment is a major goal for most nations. While it helps solve poverty and food shortages, rapid growth also brings severe environmental challenges.
There is no denying that economic growth is conducive to ending poverty and hunger. To begin with, businesses gain higher profits and tend to expand production. This creates numerousplenty of job opportunities for ordinary people. With a steady incomeWith steady income, individuals are able to afford daily necessities including food. Moreover, rising business and personal consumption increases government tax revenuesincome. The government can spend more money on advanced agricultural technology to improve crop yields. Higher food output reduces prices and eases the economic burden on low-income groups.
However, economic expansion leads to industrial pollution. Factories produce waste gasesgas and wastewater during production. Some waste is released into rivers without treatment, polluting scarcelimited water resources and threatening fish and other aquatic creatures. The gasesgas emitted into the air also harms people’s health and causes respiratory illnesses.
In addition, traditional petrol vehicles rely on fossil fuels. Burning these fuels releases large quantities of carbon dioxide, which worsens the greenhouse effect. Global temperatures rise and extreme weather events happen more often, putting humans and wildlife at risk.
From my perspective, although economic progress helps reduce poverty and hunger, it should not be achieved at the cost of the environment. Governments and companies should promote green industries and low-carbon transport. In this way, we can maintain economic growth and protect ecosystemsnatural systems for the future.
