Overall, the USA was by far the biggest consumer of oil from 2009 until present and is predicted to remain the biggest consumer until 2030.
In 2009, oil consumption in the USA was around 9 million barrels per day. This figure rose to around 10 million barrels per day in 2015, before beginning to fall. Figures are predicted to continue falling to around 7.5 million barrels per day by 2030. Meanwhile, oil consumption in Western Europe and Japan was around 4 million barrels per day in 2009 and declined thereafterhas been in decline since. Figures are predicted to reach 2 million barrels per dayreach 2 million barrels by 2030.
Oil consumption in China and the Middle East was about 2 million barrels per day in each regionaround 2 million barrels per day each in 2009. By 2030, figures for China and the Middle East are predicted to reach 3.5 and 3 million barrels per day respectively.
Why this response received Band 7.5
The response is clear, well organised, and generally accurate, with appropriate units and useful endpoint figures. Its main weakness is that the overview identifies only US dominance and the detail omits important intermediate movements, especially China's rise to a 2025 peak before easing. Prioritise a fuller overview that contrasts the two broadly declining series with the two rising ones, then support it with the most significant turning points.
