Some people think international car-free days are an effective way of reducing air pollution, others think there are some other ways. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Sample Response
A wide range of feasible measures have been proposed in an attempt to improve air quality worldwideenhance the quality of air across the globe. Although it is universally accepted that global car-free days can bean effective solution. It is my conviction that numerous other policies seem more practicalseem to become more possible.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that when almost all citizens on a global scale are willing to resort to other means of transport in order to celebrate a so-called international car-free day, this practice seems to be fruitful. Every dayOn a day-to-day basis, cars, which are widely regarded as the most prevalent means of transporttransportation means running on petrol or diesel, discharge a large volume of exhaust fumesa huge quantity of exhaust fumes ranging from carbon dioxidedioxides to unburned hydrocarbons. Therefore, there would likely be a considerable declinethere is, in all likelihood, a considerable decline in the amount of polluting gasesthe amount of pollution-causing gas, meaning that the air may become cleaner and healthierthe air quality may become cleaner and healthier. This situation might encourage individuals to reduce car usage in the followingnext days to reduce air pollutiondiminish air contamination.
However, I advocate. I advocate the viewpoint that several more attainable policies could be introduced with a view to minimizing the amount of air pollutionthe number of air quality pollutants. The most immediate solution would be for all factories to adoptwould be that all factories need to apply cutting-edge cleaner technologiespollution-free technologies in production so that these factories would produce fewer harmful emissionsexhaust fumes from these factories would become more environmentally friendly. Another remedy may be to construct and put into operation more nuclear power plants as opposed to thermal power stations which release thousands of tons of carbon dioxidedioxides into the atmosphere. Alternative sourcesOther alternative sources of energy, namely solar energy, energy namely solar energy and wind power should be exploited. The two latter policies may contribute to meeting the growing demand for energyfulfilling the increasing requirements for energy for industrial production and daily household consumption without causing serious damage to the air quality.
To conclude, despite the productive global car-free day celebration as aforementioned, I uphold the standpoint that various other methods seem to be more achievable.
Why this response received Band 7.0
The response presents a clear preference for broader measures and supports both perspectives with relevant explanations, particularly through its discussion of industrial emissions and cleaner energy. Its main limitation is uneven language control, with awkward collocations, sentence fragments, and imprecise expressions occasionally weakening clarity. The highest priority is to express the same well-chosen ideas in more natural, grammatically complete sentences.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
Both views are addressed and the writer's preference for broader environmental measures is clear and reasonably developed.
Support the comparison with a more concrete example and explain more directly why the alternative policies would be more effective.
Coherence and Cohesion
The response follows a logical progression through the two views, with clear paragraph purposes and generally effective linking.
Use transitions more naturally and ensure each paragraph's claims connect without abrupt punctuation or repetitive framing.
Lexical Resource
A broad environmental vocabulary conveys the main ideas effectively, though several collocations and word choices are imprecise.
Prioritize natural combinations such as carbon dioxide emissions and following days over elaborate but awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A varied range of complex structures is attempted successfully, but fragments and recurring errors reduce grammatical control.
Check every dependent clause for a complete main clause and edit punctuation, agreement, and article use before finishing.
