The diagram details the process of making clothes from plastic bottles.
Sample Response
The diagram delineates the process by which plastic bottles can be reused in the manufacturing of clothing. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that there are three3 main stages to this entirely man-made process firstly involving the collection and sorting of bottles, followed by cleaning and processing, and finally the actual production of clothes.
In the first step, plastic bottles of varying sizes are collected and transported to factories. ThereIn the factories, the bottles are then sorted and placed in a machine to cut them into smaller pieces. The pieces are then washedmust then be washed and left in the sun to dry.
The transformative stages begin with the pieces of plastic being boiledwith boiling of the pieces of plastic which precedes straining. After having been strained, the resulting materialbyproduct becomes yarn which is then ready to be wovenweaved into fabricinto a fabric. Lastly, the finished rolls of material are used in the manufacturefabrication of clothing.
Why this response received Band 8.0
The response presents the complete sequence accurately, supported by a clear overview and strong chronological organization. Its main limitation is a small cluster of awkward or inaccurate language choices, most notably 'ready to be weaved' and some over-elaborate phrasing; the priority is to retain the precise stage coverage while using more natural process vocabulary and fully controlled passive forms.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Achievement
The response accurately covers every stage from bottle collection through processing, yarn production, fabric formation, and clothing manufacture.
Refine the overview by stating that the linear process transforms discarded bottles into fabric and finished garments through a sequence of stages.
Coherence and Cohesion
The process is grouped logically and follows the visual sequence clearly, with effective chronological linking throughout.
Streamline the long overview sentence so that the three broad phases are easier to absorb immediately.
Lexical Resource
The response demonstrates broad process vocabulary, although 'byproduct' and some elevated phrases are less precise or natural than needed.
Prefer direct process terms such as 'material,' 'woven fabric,' and 'made into clothing' where they express the stage more exactly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Complex structures and passive forms are generally well controlled, with occasional awkwardness and the incorrect form 'be weaved.'
Use the correct participle 'woven' and check article and modifier placement in longer process descriptions.
