Sample Response

The illustration compares that arrangement of the health centre's rooms and facilities in 2005 and in the present day. It can be observed that the health centre has been renovated and it has more rooms and less space for garden these days compared to that of 2005. According to the plan A, in 2005, the health centre's car park could cater only twelve motor vehicles. From the entrance of the building, the reception desk was at the centre of the building and that was surrounded by three consultation rooms and the office. There are seats for people at the left side of the entrance in the reception room. The hospital also had a physiotherapy room which was located behind the second consulting room. Moreover, the garden outside the building was quite wide and surrounded the health centre. The renovation took place in the hospital and nowadays there are additional facilities in the health centre such as operating room for minor procedures and a place for children's recreation. Now the parking area can accommodate thirty cars and wider compared to their carpark area in the year 2005. It can also be observed that some changes were made in the reception room. Moreover, its entrance is relocated at the left-side of the building as well as its reception desk which is a few steps away from their entrance door. A new consultancy room was added and today, the health centre can perform minor operations as they have a dedicated operation room adjacent to the office and just beside the physiotherapy room.

IELTS Writing Correction

  • 1. Correct demonstrative Original: that arrangement Suggested revision: the arrangement Why it matters: Use the definite article to identify the arrangement shown in the plans.
  • 2. Natural noun phrase Original: less space for garden Suggested revision: less garden space Why it matters: This compound noun expresses the reduction in garden area naturally.
  • 3. Complete comparison Original: these days compared to that of 2005 Suggested revision: at present than in 2005 Why it matters: The revised phrase forms a direct and grammatically complete time comparison.
  • 4. Remove article Original: the plan A Suggested revision: Plan A Why it matters: A labelled plan name does not take the definite article here.
  • 5. Use precise capacity verb Original: cater only twelve motor vehicles Suggested revision: accommodate only twelve vehicles Why it matters: Car parks accommodate vehicles rather than cater them.
  • 6. Clarify viewpoint Original: From the entrance of the building Suggested revision: Inside the building Why it matters: The original phrase does not establish a clear spatial relationship for the reception desk.
  • 7. Clear pronoun reference Original: that was surrounded Suggested revision: it was surrounded Why it matters: Use a personal pronoun to refer back clearly to the reception desk.
  • 8. Match map label Original: consultation rooms Suggested revision: consulting rooms Why it matters: The plans label these spaces as consulting rooms.
  • 9. Use past tense Original: There are seats Suggested revision: There were seats Why it matters: The sentence describes the layout in 2005, so the verb should be in the past tense.
  • 10. Correct preposition Original: at the left side Suggested revision: on the left side Why it matters: Use on when describing a position on one side of a layout.
  • 11. Use correct facility Original: The hospital Suggested revision: The health centre Why it matters: The visual identifies the facility as a health centre, not a hospital.
  • 12. Add article Original: operating room for minor procedures Suggested revision: a minor-operations room Why it matters: The singular countable room needs an article and the revision matches the map label.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 6.5

The response identifies the main transformation clearly and supports it with accurate details about the enlarged car park, additional rooms, and relocated entrance and reception. Its main limitation is language control: awkward word choices, shifting tenses, missing sentence elements, and unclear pronouns recur throughout. The highest priority is to edit each comparison for complete grammatical structure and precise map terminology while retaining the strong visual coverage.

TA

Task Achievement

8.0
Feedback

A clear overview and well-selected, largely accurate details cover the principal changes shown in both plans.

Next step

Add the changed seating arrangement and describe the reduced garden and expanded building footprint more explicitly for still fuller coverage.

CC

Coherence and Cohesion

6.0
Feedback

The description progresses sensibly from the earlier plan to the present one, but the single long paragraph and repetitive linking weaken organisation.

Next step

Use separate paragraphs for 2005 and the present day, with fewer repeated connectors such as moreover.

LR

Lexical Resource

6.0
Feedback

There is sufficient vocabulary for locations and renovations, although several choices are awkward or inaccurate, including consultancy room and hospital.

Next step

Use precise map terms consistently, such as consulting room, health centre, relocated, and expanded.

GRA

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

6.0
Feedback

A mix of simple and complex structures communicates the comparison, but recurring article, tense, agreement, and sentence-completion errors reduce control.

Next step

Check every sentence for a complete verb phrase and keep past tense for 2005 and present tense for the current plan.
