Having a home is considered to have a great importance for people in some countries. I believe that it is a positive tendency, because homeowners do not need to worry about getting kicked out of the house and they have the flexibility to change the house's planning, interior or functionality depending on who owns the house.
One of the main factors benefiting houseowners is that they do not have a risk of losing a place to live. Landlords have a right to kick a person out of an apartment for plenty of reasons. For example, it can be a raise in rent price that clients can not afford, change of their preferences of a client, and if they are not satisfied with how the client cares about the house. Therefore, renting a place is always a risk that people want to circumvent.
Another factor is that people have different wishes of how their houses should look and function. Homeowners can change the house’s interior and planning in their willings. For example, there are many ecoactivists in Scandinavian countries, so they changed their houses to act more eco-friendly. Thus, people with specific requests can build and change their houses to satisfy these requirements.
In conclusion, homeowners are more secure and flexible about their houses. For that reason, I believe that owning a home is better than renting one.
IELTS Writing Correction
- 1. Inappropriate informal register Original: kicked out of the house Suggested revision: being evicted Why it matters: Phrasal verbs like 'kicked out' sound overly informal for an academic essay.
- 2. Incorrect word choice Original: planning Suggested revision: layout Why it matters: 'Layout' or 'floor plan' accurately describes the spatial arrangement of a house.
- 3. Unclear logic Original: depending on who owns the house. Suggested revision: as they own the property. Why it matters: The original phrasing creates confusion because the sentence is already discussing homeowners.
- 4. Unnatural article use Original: do not have a risk Suggested revision: do not run the risk Why it matters: The phrase 'run the risk' or 'are not at risk' is more natural standard English.
- 5. Inappropriate informal register Original: kick a person out of an apartment Suggested revision: evict a tenant Why it matters: Using precise formal terminology like 'evict a tenant' improves academic style.
- 6. Redundant word choice Original: a raise in rent price Suggested revision: an increase in rent Why it matters: The word 'price' is redundant when referring directly to rent.
- 7. Incorrect spacing Original: can not Suggested revision: cannot Why it matters: In standard written English, 'cannot' is written as a single word.
- 8. Confusing noun phrase structure Original: change of their preferences of a client Suggested revision: a change in the landlord's preferences regarding tenants Why it matters: The original noun phrase is grammatically awkward and confusing regarding who holds the preferences.
- 9. Improper preposition choice Original: cares about Suggested revision: cares for Why it matters: 'Cares for' or 'maintains' fits the context of taking care of property better than 'cares about'.
- 10. Unnatural collocation Original: wishes of how Suggested revision: preferences regarding how Why it matters: 'Preferences regarding' is more precise and appropriate for an academic context.
- 11. Incorrect word form Original: in their willings. Suggested revision: at will. Why it matters: 'Willings' is not a valid noun in this context; 'at will' correctly conveys doing something by choice.
- 12. Missing hyphen Original: ecoactivists Suggested revision: eco-activists Why it matters: 'Eco-activists' should be hyphenated to follow conventional spelling.
