1

Some people believe that we should not try to prevent animal species from becoming extinct because extinction is a natural process. I largely disagree with this view. Although some species vanish organicallynaturally disappear because they fail to adapt to environmental changes, humans should still protect endangered animals, particularly when their decline is caused by human activities.

2

It is true that extinction is sometimes an inherent evolutionary phenomenonpart of the natural process. Throughout history, some animal species have disappeared because they could not adapt to changes in climate, food supplies, or habitat conditionsfood supply or living conditions. For example, many species that lived millions of years ago eventually became extinct when their environment underwent catastrophic shiftschanged dramatically. In such cases, it may be unrealistic for humans to prevent every species from disappearing. Nature is constantly changing, and the survival of a species depends partly on its ability to adapt to these changes. Therefore, humans need not intervene inpeople do not need to interfere with every case of natural extinction.

3

However, many endangered species today are threatened not only by natural changes but also by human activities. Deforestation, pollution, overhuntingexcessive hunting and urban development can destroy animal habitatsanimals' habitats and rapidly reduce their populations. In these situations, humans clearly have a responsibility to protect endangered species because we are partly responsible for their decline. For example, conservation programmes have helped increase the population of giant pandas after their numbers plummetedfell significantly in the past. Protecting endangered animals can also maintain biodiversity and contribute to the stability of ecosystems. If a keystone speciesan important species disappears, other animals and plants within the same ecosystem may also be affected. Therefore, protecting endangered species yields mutual benefits for ecological integrity and human welfarecan benefit both nature and human society.

4

In conclusion, although extinction can sometimes occur naturally, I disagree that there is no reason for humans to prevent it. We may not be able to preventstop every natural extinction, but we should protect species whose survival is seriously threatened by human activities.
