The diagram below shows the process of growing and preparing pineapples and pineapple products.
Sample Response
The diagram details the steps involving the cultivation and post-harvest treatmentpostharvest treatment of pineapples to produce different lines of products. Overall, this linear process consists of two major stages, including farming and processing, producing juice, canned pineapple, and fresh fruit for exportwhose results are juice, canned, or exportable fruits.
In the cultivation stage, pineapples are planted in conditions with temperatures ofregions characterised by a temperature range of 23 to 30 degrees Celsius. DeleteTo optimise their sunlight exposure, the plants are spaced at 26 cm intervals. When pineapples are after seven monthsin their seventh month, growers spray them with ethylenespray a substance called ethylene over them. Pineapples require a further five monthsnecessitate five additional months to reach their full maturity, attaining a height of 30 cm and a weight of 2 kg.
After the harvest, pineapples are washed and graded before being processed into three types of products. The smallest pineapples, having undergone de-crowning and peeling, are fed into a machine, which will extract the juice from them. Medium-sized pineapples go through a similar initial peeling procedure before being either cut into chunks or cored and sliced for canning. Meanwhile, the largest pineapples are packed in wooden crates to be shipped to other countries. Before this can be done, the pineapples are coated with a layer of wax to preserve their freshness.
Why this response received Band 8.0
The response presents the cultivation and three processing pathways with clear sequencing, accurate measurements, and strong control of complex language. Its main weakness is occasional imprecise or unnatural phrasing, especially in describing the products and the process as linear despite its branching structure. The highest-priority improvement is to use more exact process vocabulary and collocations while preserving the concise, well-organised coverage.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Achievement
The response gives a clear overview and accurately covers the principal cultivation stages, measurements, sorting, and all three product pathways.
Refine the overview by describing the process as branching after harvest and naming the outputs more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion
Information is logically divided between cultivation and postharvest processing, with clear sequencing and well-managed reference.
Make the transition from washing and grading to the three size-based branches even more explicit.
Lexical Resource
A broad range of process vocabulary communicates the stages precisely, although a few collocations sound unnatural.
Replace phrases such as different lines of products and pineapples necessitate with more natural process descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Varied complex structures, including passive forms and subordinate clauses, are used accurately throughout.
Continue refining clause attachment so descriptive phrases always refer as directly as possible to the intended stage or product.
