Why this response received Band 6.5
The essay discusses both educational models and reaches a clear preference for mixed schools, contrasting social preparation with the concentration and tailored instruction associated with single-sex education. Its strongest feature is the symmetrical structure, which makes each view easy to identify. The main limitation is that several claims are general or asserted rather than demonstrated, while awkward vocabulary and grammar reduce precision; prioritise one concrete example for each model and a more measured final comparison.

Task Response
Both views and the writer’s preference are clearly addressed with relevant reasons, though claims about career success and peaceful life are insufficiently supported.
Explain how mixed schooling builds collaboration and how single-sex schooling might reduce distraction, using realistic classroom or workplace examples.
Coherence and Cohesion
The response follows a clear four-part structure and moves logically between opposing views, although some conclusions within paragraphs are overgeneralised.
End each body paragraph by linking its evidence directly to the educational benefit rather than asserting a broad life or career outcome.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is adequate for schooling, social skills, distraction, learning needs, careers, and development, but frequent unnatural collocations limit precision.
Use school options for young people, coeducational schools, reflect real life, adapt to society, graduates, same-sex schools, and enrol their children.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A range of sentence forms conveys the argument, but recurring errors in articles, plurals, possessives, clauses, verb forms, and prepositions reduce accuracy.
Correct forms such as students’ development, both viewpoints, groups of people, boys and girls, represent real life, graduates, and concentrate on their studies.
