I think there are two types of people who do a job. The first types of people work for money primarily, and another type of people work for self-realization, to use their skills.
People in the beginning of the human history started working because they needed food, shelter and other very basic human needs to survive. The primary reason for working, even in this modern era, is to earn money to survive.
