Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 5.5

The response identifies the broad mid-year dip and some of the wetter months, and its meaning remains generally understandable despite ambitious wording. However, numerous values are overstated, the months are discussed in a confusing reverse sequence, and several comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The highest priority is to organise the report chronologically and verify each figure against the chart, using simpler, more precise language for changes.

TA

Task Achievement

5.5
Scoring rule

A broad overview is present and some main movements are recognised, but several rainfall figures and comparisons do not match the chart.

Next step

Report the accurate values, such as September at about 82 mm and the mid-year low near 54 mm, and compare months in a clear sequence.

CC

Coherence and Cohesion

5.0
Scoring rule

Ideas are linked with a range of cohesive devices, but the single paragraph and reverse movement through the months make progression difficult to follow.

Next step

Use an overview paragraph followed by logically grouped details, preferably moving chronologically from January to December or grouping wetter and drier months.

LR

Lexical Resource

5.5
Scoring rule

The response attempts varied language for trends, but frequent miscollocations such as references to rain precipitate and a moderate soar reduce precision.

Next step

Prefer accurate combinations such as rainfall rose, fell, remained stable, and reached a peak, avoiding exaggerated trend words for small changes.

GRA

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

5.5
Scoring rule

A mix of sentence forms conveys the main meaning, although frequent article, preposition, capitalisation, and clause-control errors weaken accuracy.

Next step

Check sentence openings, articles, and verb-preposition patterns, especially structures used to describe figures reaching or changing to a value.
