Some people think that technology has made our life too complex. However, other people think that it has made our life easier. What is your viewpoint?
Sample Response
In my view, technology has made life easier and at the same time, it has made our life somewhatsomehow complicated. We can't say it has made our life too complex because it depends on a person's decisionit is of the person's decisiveness to choose whether he or she wantswhether they want an easy or a complicated life, but it would be fair to sayit would fit to say it has made our life complicated in a certain manner to the extent that we have no control over some of its outcomes. For instance, technology has a role to play in air pollution and there is no way we can escape pollutionrun away from pollution since it is a worldwide issue and as long as air pollution is there, everyone on the planeteach and every individual alive on this planet will suffer the consequences of this bad side of technology whether they like it or not. Although most agree that technology has made our life easier, they have failed to make full use of itmake the most use out of it and its benefits. The benefits of technology go beyond transportation, communication and entertainment. Especially in the 21st century, technology is found in our day-to-day lifeday to day life. It has become an answer to most of our questions and a solution to most of our problems. It creates anthe atmosphere of comfort in a depressing era. Technological products such as cars, refrigerators, aeroplanes and stoves are some of the good examples to show how technology can simplify one's life. Overall, I would argueIn general, we can conclude that technology is a way of making life easy.
Why this response received Band 6.0
The response states a clear mixed viewpoint and uses relevant examples to show both the unavoidable drawbacks and practical benefits of technology. Its main limitation is that the analysis remains brief and is compressed into one paragraph, with very long sentences making the progression harder to follow. The highest priority is to develop the two sides in separate paragraphs and conclude explicitly which is more persuasive.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The response gives a clear mixed viewpoint and relevant examples, especially pollution and household technologies. However, it is short on development and does not fully analyse why technology makes life easier or complex.
Develop two balanced body paragraphs: one on unavoidable complexity and one on practical convenience, then state which side is stronger.
Coherence and Cohesion
The essay is presented as one paragraph and the progression is hard to scan. Ideas move from complexity to benefits, but transitions and paragraph control are limited.
Separate the introduction, complexity argument, easier-life argument, and conclusion into four paragraphs.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is generally sufficient and sometimes flexible, but several collocations are awkward or imprecise.
Use natural phrases such as “partly complicated,” “a matter of personal choice,” “make full use of,” and “part of everyday life.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
There is some complex sentence use, but very long sentences create control problems and several phrases have awkward grammar.
Break long sentences into shorter ones and check prepositions after phrases such as “agree that,” “part of,” and “make use of.”
