Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 6.0

The response gives a relevant position and supports it with several recognisable technology examples, showing how existing features can be recombined successfully. However, the discussion remains narrow and list-like, and frequent sentence-control and word-choice problems weaken clarity. State the opinion directly at the outset, then organise two broader, fully developed arguments in shorter, accurately structured sentences.

IELTS Writing Criteria Scores

TR

Task Response

6.0
Scoring rule

The essay presents a relevant opinion that successful originality often combines existing ideas, and it supports this with technology examples. However, the response is narrow, focuses almost entirely on consumer devices, and does not directly explore the statement in a broader way.

Next step

State the opinion clearly in the introduction and use two developed arguments: one explaining why recombination creates originality and one acknowledging when entirely new thinking still matters.

CC

Coherence and Cohesion

6.0
Scoring rule

There is a basic progression from iPhone to smart watches to smart televisions and failed inventions. Some sentences are fragments, and paragraphing is limited, so the logic can feel list-like.

Next step

Use separate paragraphs for successful recombination and failed inventions, with topic sentences that explicitly connect each example to originality.

LR
