More and more tasks we do at home and at work these days are done by robots. Is this a positive or negative development?
Sample Response
It is undeniable that robots are increasingly performing tasks at home and in the workplace, transforming the way we live and work. While automation brings certain gains in efficiency and convenience, I believe that its social and economic negative repercussions outweigh these gainsrepercussions are of greater significance.
It is true that the deployment of robotic systems streamlines tasks and increaseselevates comfort in both professional and domestic spheres. In professional settingsRegarding the former, industrial and service robots boost productivity and accuracy in the workplace. By executing repetitive or complex operations without experiencing fatigue, robots maintain consistent performance levels. As a consequence, automation increases throughputyields faster throughput and significantly fewer human errors. Moreover, domestic robotshome robotics give residents more free timecreate more free time and greater comfort for residents. To illustrate, devices such as robotic vacuum cleaners, smart appliance controlsautomated appliance controllers, and assistive robots for the elderly handle routine household chores. Thus, household automation enhances quality of life and reduces stress.
However, an overdependence on automation creates significant social and economic problems which can overshadow these benefits. To begin with, one major issue is job displacement, which arises when machines replace human roles across industries. This is because robotics and AI systems can perform manufacturing, administrative, and service tasks previously handled by workers. As a result, automation can increase unemploymentdrives unemployment and exacerbates economic inequality, as displaced employees struggle to find new work. Another problem worth mentioning is the overuse of robots and digital assistantsexcessive use of robots and digital assistants, which undermines essential interpersonal skills. For example, relying on voice-activated helpers or automated chatbots for routine interactions can erode users’ communication and problem-solving abilities. Ultimately, technologicaltech dependence leads to reducedlower social competence and an unhealthy overreliance on machines for even simple decisions.
In conclusion, although robotic automation delivers undeniable benefits in productivity and personal convenience, I maintain that its negative implications—namely job loss and the erosion of human capabilities—outweigh these advantages.
Why this response received Band 8.0
The response is strongest in its clear, sustained position and well-developed explanation of both the practical benefits and broader costs of automation. Its main limitation is that some examples and claims, particularly about declining interpersonal abilities, remain somewhat general rather than analytically tested. The highest-priority improvement is to make the causal support for that social argument more specific and nuanced.

Strengthen the discussion of weakened human capabilities with a more specific mechanism or concrete real-world consequence.
Coherence and Cohesion
Ideas progress logically through a controlled four-paragraph structure, with clear referencing and cohesive links throughout.
Use a few less overt signposts so the progression feels even more natural and less visibly managed.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary is wide, precise, and topic-appropriate, with confident use of terms such as job displacement, throughput, and interpersonal skills.
Refine occasional slightly packaged expressions such as elevates comfort to make the wording consistently natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
