Why this response received Band 6.0
The response sustains a clear view that books remain the stronger learning tool and gives relevant reasons concerning focused information, literacy skills, entertainment preferences, and lost study time. Its main limitation is that the argument lacks concrete evidence and is presented in one dense paragraph containing frequent awkward or malformed sentences; the highest-priority improvement is to organise distinct ideas into paragraphs and support the comparison with a specific educational example.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The response clearly supports the statement with several relevant reasons, though claims about television and educational outcomes remain general and unsupported.
Use a specific example to compare how a book and an educational programme teach the same skill or subject.
Coherence and Cohesion
The argument moves broadly from television use to the benefits of books and the displacement of study time, but the single paragraph and one severely overloaded sentence weaken flow.
Separate the introduction, book benefits, television limitations, and conclusion into clear paragraphs with focused topic sentences.
Lexical Resource
The response uses adequate vocabulary for media, education, development, and entertainment, but several inaccurate word choices and collocations reduce precision.
Use natural expressions such as integral part, adverse effect, traditional method, educational content, and passive learner.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Complex structures are attempted, but frequent agreement, comparative, article, word-form, and clause-boundary errors sometimes obscure relationships.
Write complete main clauses before adding subordinate details, then proofread agreement and comparative constructions systematically.
