Why this response received Band 5.5
The response identifies several important changes, particularly the bus station, roundabouts, and revised parking, and its broad organization remains understandable. However, incorrect locations, omitted details, and a limited overview weaken the visual account, while frequent sentence-structure and article errors make some descriptions difficult to follow. The priority is to compare the maps systematically and express each change in a complete, accurately controlled sentence.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Achievement
The report covers some central changes, but it misstates several locations, omits key details, and provides an overview focused mainly on the bus station.
Summarize both major developments in the overview and verify the positions of the bus station and each car park against the maps.
Coherence and Cohesion
The basic introduction, detail paragraphs, and overview create a recognizable structure, but progression is weakened by fragments, repetition, and loosely connected changes.
Group the 2007 layout and 2010 changes systematically, using one complete sentence for each comparison.
Lexical Resource
There is an adequate range of map-related vocabulary, but repeated wording and inaccurate collocations such as declared as reduce clarity and precision.
Use precise change verbs such as relocated, designated, replaced, and constructed, while avoiding repeated references to hospital road.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Some complex forms are attempted, but frequent fragments, article errors, faulty coordination, and agreement problems sometimes strain meaning.
Prioritise complete sentence boundaries and check articles and verb forms before adding subordinate clauses.
