1

It is now possible to watch films, concerts and plays on a smartphonephone or computer at any time. Because of this, some people believe that traditional entertainment venues have become unnecessary. Although online services are very convenient, I believe that cinemas and theatres still have an important place in modern society.

2

On the one hand, the internet has changed the way people spend their free time. Streaming platforms offer a wide selectiona huge choice of entertainment for a relatively low monthly subscription feemonthly cost, while a cinema visitticket may be expensive for a family. Viewers can also pause a programme, watch at a convenient timechoose their own schedule and watch it without travelling anywhere. This is especially useful for people who live far from city centres or have demanding work schedulesbusy working hours. In addition, online platforms allow independentsmall films and performances to reach audiences in different countries, which would be difficult throughin a local theatre.

3

On the other hand, watching a performance at home cannot completely replace the experience of attending it. In a theatre, the actors and audience share the same space, so each performance feels more direct and sometimes different. Cinemas also provide large screens and sound systems that many homes do not have. More importantly, these venues support jobs for performers, technicians, restaurant workers and local businesses nearby. They can also introduce people to national stories, languages and artistic traditions. If such places disappeared, city life might become less lively and young artists would have fewer opportunities to develop their careers.

4

In my opinion, online entertainment will continue to grow, mainly because it is inexpensive and easily accessiblecheap and easy to access. However, theatres and cinemas should not be seen as outdated venuesold-fashioned services. They offer social, cultural and economic benefits which cannot be fully provided by an individual watching a screen at home. Therefore, they should adapt to new audiences rather than close down.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 8.0

The essay is strongest in its balanced, well-developed treatment of both views and its consistently clear position, supported by relevant economic, cultural, and practical reasoning. The main limitation is that some support remains general rather than illustrated with a sharply specific example. To improve further, deepen one key point with a concrete example while preserving the concise structure and controlled, fluent language.
