All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement. Do you think the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?

Some people 1arguesuppose that all university students should go abroad to study or to do a work placement for a period during their degree programmes; in my view, the advantages of this approach are outweighed by the disadvantages.

Studying or interning overseas has a few advantages for students and universities. Such programmes provide students with opportunities to live and interact in other countries, which allows them to broaden their horizons and gain insights into different cultures and work environments. When interacting with diverse groups of peers from around the world, exchange students can practise their social skills and gain an understanding of the educational environments of various countries. Additionally, participating universities gain more opportunities to communicate with each other, and 2it becomes easierit’s easier to get to know their partner institutions' pedagogical philosophies. They may also establish links with foreign institutions, which could improve their international reputation and teaching approaches.

On the other hand, this policy also creates significant difficulties. Firstly, the 3financial burden is a major concernfunding is worth considering carefully. 4If the accommodation, travel, and extra course fees are 5borne by individualsborne by the individuals, many students who come from low-income families may be unable to afford them, which means they will give up the valuable 6opportunitychance due to exorbitant expenses, making the policy unfair rather than beneficial. From an academic perspective, some disciplines are not suited to an extended period away. In addition, if a placement is poorly organised, it may interrupt academic study or involve routine work rather than genuine training. Consequently, students may suffer from constant stress and emotional strain instead of thriving in an enriching environment.
