Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Response
In our modern world, the question whether universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject has been widely discussed. A significant proportion of peopleA fair portion of people believes that it is the universities’ responsibilityuniversities responsibility to ensure equal numbersmake the number even in every subject, while others hold the opposite point of viewopposite point of the view. As for me, I agree with the latter viewone.
Firstly, for certain occupationssome certain working positions, men can perform better than womenthe male can do better than female. For example, it is obvious that there are more policemen than policewomen. Man can run faster, men are stronger and men can react to a dangerous situation more quickly. All of these points help a man become more suitable to be police officersbe the police. In this case, universities should have more male students learningstudents in learning how to become a well-trained policeman in the futurepoliceman in future, rather than female students.
Secondly, when it comes to the work of teaching in schools, especially primary schools, thereit is no doubt that men can’t perform as well asdo as good as women. Children naturally preferIt is children’s nature that they always prefer to be taught by female teachers. They treat their female teachers as their close friends, sometimes even their mothers. Normally, compared with mencomparing to men, women are moremost likely to understand what the children are thinkingwhat are the children thinking and what they want next. For example, if a child accidentally hurts his thumb, his female teacher would hold him in her arms to comfort him. However, athe male teacher may tell the child that it’s not a big deal. For teaching-related subjectsFor the teaching subject, apparently, universities should admit more female studentsuniversities need to have more female students.
In conclusion, it is not necessary that universities have to make the equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. Actually, the numbers of male and female in a class depend on different subjects.
Why this response received Band 6.0
The response presents a clear disagreement and maintains an easy-to-follow structure, with each body paragraph offering a relevant example. However, the argument depends heavily on broad gender stereotypes and does not examine admissions fairness or individual aptitude, which limits its depth and persuasiveness. The highest priority is to build more nuanced reasons while correcting frequent article, agreement, comparative, and word-form errors.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
A clear position is maintained and supported by two relevant ideas, but the reasoning is simplistic, overgeneralised, and only moderately developed.
Justify the position through individual ability, course demand, and fair admissions principles rather than unsupported gender generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion
Ideas are organised into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, although progression relies on basic, mechanical sequencing.
Strengthen connections within paragraphs by explaining how each example directly supports the admissions-policy argument.
Lexical Resource
The vocabulary is sufficient for the topic, but recurrent awkward collocations and imprecise expressions reduce control.
Use natural academic phrases such as “some occupations,” “better suited to policing,” and “teacher-training programmes.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
A mix of sentence forms communicates the main message, but frequent errors in articles, agreement, plurals, comparatives, and clause structure are evident.
Focus revision on noun phrases and comparative structures, then check every sentence for subject–verb agreement and article use.
