Sample Response

In this century, computers are considered as the most revolutionary invention for the development of human beings. However, there are some people concerned about the complexity and stressfulness that come along with the computer using. Personally, I am in favour of the view that the high-tech products bring people more convenience and much easier life. Granted, the unhealthy use of computers like indulgence in computer games and the illegal use like hackers and cyber crimes make the living surroundings more complex and even stressful. Nevertheless, no garden without weed, it is the computers that enhance our communication, facilitate daily work and study, and lower the living cost. When it comes to the benefits computers bring about, at least three obvious aspects should be mentioned. Firstly, as a way of telecommunication, no one can deny that computers enhance the interaction between people. Specifically, compared with traditional letters and telegraphs, emails and online chatting allow overseas students contact with their parents in a more timely and easy manner without considering the geographic limitations. Secondly, proper using of computers improves the efficiency of both work and study since the internet helps to get access to numerous information and knowledge that no professionals or teachers could provide during their whole lifetime. Lastly, from the perspective of family budgets, PCs contribute largely to lower the living cost and improve the life quality. The main reason given for this is that after checking and comparing prices online, the users can always choose the most economical products. To conclude, although computers exert some undesirable effects on the society, they are still the undeniable contributor in making our daily life easier and more convenient.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.0

The essay sustains a clear view, acknowledges computer-related harms, and develops three relevant benefits through communication, efficiency, and reduced household costs. Its main limitation is linguistic polish: frequent unnatural collocations and one-paragraph presentation make an otherwise strong argument less fluent. Prioritise natural academic phrasing and divide the three benefits into focused paragraphs with sharper supporting examples.
