Why this response received Band 5.5
The essay gives a clear eventual position and relevant reasons centred on the convenience and availability of online information. However, its case is repetitive and broadly supported, while long sentences and frequent language errors weaken progression; prioritise stating the view in the introduction and developing two distinct, specific reasons—such as searchable digital libraries and changing reading habits—in clearly focused paragraphs.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The essay answers the question with a clear view that technology will replace books and written sources, but the position appears mainly at the end and the reasons are repetitive. Support is broad and relevant, yet examples are limited to convenience and online availability rather than explaining why books would stop being the main source of information.
State the view in the introduction and develop two distinct reasons with specific examples, such as searchable digital libraries and changing reading habits.
Coherence and Cohesion
There are visible paragraphs and a basic sequence from background to opinion, but progression is weakened by long run-on sentences, repeated claims about ease, and unclear referencing.
Give each paragraph one topic sentence and close it with a sentence that links directly to replacement of books as information sources.
Lexical Resource
Vocabulary communicates the main idea, but many phrases are unnatural or repetitive, especially around modern technology, convenience, and information sources.
Replace repeated general phrases such as “easy for us” with more precise academic vocabulary like accessible, searchable, convenient, and time-saving.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Meaning is generally understandable, but frequent sentence-boundary, article, capitalization, and word-form errors limit control.
Write shorter sentences and check articles with general nouns such as technology, the internet, books, and people.
