Why this response received Band 5.5
The response identifies two relevant sources of satisfaction—personal interest and workplace relationships—and organises them into separate supporting paragraphs. Its main limitation is incomplete treatment of how realistic satisfaction is for all workers, while frequent language errors sometimes make the reasoning difficult to follow. Prioritise a developed explanation of why universal satisfaction is unlikely, supported by practical constraints such as pay, job availability, or working conditions.
IELTS Writing Criteria Scores
Task Response
The essay develops personal interest and workplace environment as relevant factors, but it only asserts that satisfaction for everyone is unrealistic without adequately explaining why.
Add a focused paragraph explaining practical limits on universal satisfaction, such as restricted job choice, financial necessity, workload, or unequal conditions.
Coherence and Cohesion
Paragraphing and basic signposting create a recognisable progression through the two factors, although the introduction and conclusion are unclear and some links are mechanical.
Use a direct thesis that previews both questions and a conclusion that clearly summarises the factors and realism judgment.
Lexical Resource
The response has enough vocabulary to discuss work and satisfaction, but repetition and frequent inaccurate collocations reduce clarity and precision.
Replace expressions such as 'personal favour for the job' and 'gain their lives' with natural phrases such as 'interest in the work' and 'earn a living.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Some simple and complex sentence forms are attempted, but frequent errors in structure, agreement, articles, pronouns, and word form often make sentences difficult to process.
Write shorter sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then check agreement and pronoun reference before combining clauses.
