The manufacturing sector of the economysectors of economy accounted for the highest number of jobs (15 million)had the most people at the beginning of the period, but the retail and healthcare sectors hadretail and healthcare sectors had the largest number of jobs by the end. Moreover, agriculture replacedreplaces healthcare as the sector with the lowestleast number of jobs. Looking first at the upward trends, employment inThere was a significant increase in the number of jobs in retail over the 60-year period, fromin retail over the 60 years from about 6 million to 16 million. In addition, the number of jobs in healthcare also markedly grew over the same period, from approximately 2 million to 16 millionat the same time between approximately 2 million and 16 million. A significant increase could be seen in the number of jobs in manufacturing reached 20 million in the first 20 years, after which it declined steadily to around 13 million by 2020steeply dropped from 1980 to 2020.
